The Pomona City Council voted 6 to 0 in favor of repealing all residency restrictions within the city’s sex offender ordinance. The vote was taken on June 16 with one member absent. A second vote on this issue is scheduled to be taken on July 7.
“The City of Pomona is the first city to be sued in a series of 12 lawsuits challenging residency restrictions,” stated CA RSOL President Janice Bellucci. “We commend Pomona for taking the first step toward repeal of these restrictions which violate both the state and federal constitutions.”
The City of Pomona was 1 of more than 70 cities notified in January 2014 that its sex offender ordinances was inconsistent with two Court of Appeal decision which determined that similar ordinances were preempted by state law. The letter warned cities that they faced legal challenges if they did not repeal or revise their ordinances within 60 days. The City of Pomona was sued in federal district court on March 24.
Well; It appears the folks in Pomona have stopped beating each other with the proverbial stupid stick. 🙂 I would suggest we have a celebratory picnic in their nicest park; but forget it! That entire town is nasty!!! 🙁 I used to live there and I can tell you if we had a picnic in their nicest park we would be plagued by homeless hungry people and pan handlers, as well as gang bangers and hookers. Perhaps now the city of Pomona can address some of the myriad of problems in their town; and they do have ALLOT of problems, the least of which was registrants going to a park or walking down the street.
